Photo Gallery: Silent Witness Exhibit
In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Healthy Chicago Lawn coalition hosted a Silent Witness exhibit at nine sites throughout the Chicago Lawn community from Oct. 26 – Nov. 3, 2006. The exhibit, on loan from the National Council of Jewish Women, tells the stories of women and children from Illinois who have been killed in acts of domestic violence. Visitors to the exhibit were invited to make their own commitment to reduce violence in their homes and community. By the end of the exhibit, the boards were full of commitments, such as 1.) raising awareness of domestic violence, 2.) looking for safe ways to express anger, and 3.) avoiding entertainment and toys that glorify violence.
