About
the Albany
Park Safe Spaces Program
HAP has developed
and is implementing a new program in the community, Albany Park Safe
Spaces. Anyone experiencing violence in the community can come into
a Safe Space and ask for help. They will receive a resource guide and
a safe and private telephone to make a local or 800 number call. Safe
Spaces participants include schools, businesses and service agencies.
Albany Park Safe Spaces program works to address many issues
of violence including sexual assault, domestic violence, incest, hate
crimes, child abuse, neglect, dating violence, human trafficking, immigration
threat and more. In each space a community partner has been trained on
these issues and on how to interact with those seeking assistance.
To kick off the program, HAP and other community partners held the first
Albany Park Safe Spaces Art Walk. Some Safe Spaces had
their doors open with artwork and resources inside. Community members
were encouraged to come in and view art that honored survivors of violence,
find out about the Safe Spaces program and receive resources
and if necessary.
